Biography
Born in Toronto in the family of Frank Herbert Orser and Ethel Marjorie Cox. He graduated from Danforth Technical School. He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1946 with a certified accountant degree. In 1973, he began working in the Eaton's chain of universal stores, quickly making a career and reaching the post of president and CEO of the company, which he held for the next two years, by 1975.
Many Canadians associate the Eaton's leadership period with Orser with the cessation of the release of Eaton's famous mail-order catalog and the elimination of the relevant business section of the company. In fact, the decision to abolish the "mail-order" was made by the owners of the company, , while Orser took over the difficulties in operational, labor, political and public relations that inevitably arose after closing for so long existing business (including, in particular, job loss by approximately 9,000 employees of the unit).
After leaving Eaton, Orser moved to Canada, London , where he joined the London Life Insurance Company, becoming President and CEO in 1980, in 1989 as chairman and honorary chairman in 1994.
He was the director of Spar Aerospace Ltd. ( Eng. Spar Aerospace ) since 1978 and has been chairman for five years.
Orser was also Chairman of the Board of Governors of the University of Western Ontario .
He was appointed a member of the Order of Canada in 1997. In 1991, he received the title of Honorary Doctor of Law from the University of Western Ontario. He is a member of the Ontario Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FSA). In 1997, he was inducted into the London Business Hall of Fame. [ what? ] .
