Optical disc packaging - a box with mounts or a package for storing optical discs ( CD , DVD , HD DVD , Blu-ray , etc.).
The main purpose of each package is to protect the disc from light , dust , mechanical damage and dirt . Additionally, it can be used for advertising (both on one and on both sides of the disk), description of content, etc.
Packing thickness (top to bottom): regular sidebox, double sidebox, jelly package (slightly thicker than the usual thin sidebox, 1C was used to issue cheap licenses in the early 2000s), thin sidebox.
Package Types
Standard plastic box for one DVD. Other names - kipkeys , amarey.
6-sided digipack
Regular sidebox
CD in a paper envelope with a transparent window
- Kipkeys ( Eng. Keep-case ), aka Dividiboks ( Eng. DVD-box ). Usually it has mounts for one drive, but there are packages for 2 drives (one drive on each side), 3-4 (two mounts on each side, the drives are “overlapped” at different heights from the wall). Usually has a plastic transparent cover and an embedded paper sheet (on both sides). Russian publishers call their games in such packaging “gift wrapping” - in licensed publications not only the game discs themselves, but also the user manual, registration card, and additional information, ranging from the keyboard layout in the game to small albums with illustrations from the game, etc.
- Thin kipkeys ( English Slim DVD-case ) height and width as at kipkeys, but the thickness is significantly less (maximum 1 disc). Similarly, the kipkeys has a transparent cover and a paper sheet.
- Digipak , digipak ( English Digipak ) The insert with fastening for CD sticks to the cardboard sheet folded twice or three times. The packaging is opened in the form of a booklet. Often invested in a separate cardboard box. This packaging is mainly used to design DVD-Video discs. Cheaper and short-lived compared to kipkeysom.
- Sidiboks ( Eng. CD-box, Jewel case, Jewel box ). Standard packaging for CD. Usually contains one, two, sometimes three or four disks (in the case of several disks, the surface with the disk mount is movable). It has two positions to strengthen the liners - on the lid and bottom. Currently, the term “jelly” or “economical packaging” is also used.
- Thin sidiboks ( English Slim-jewel, slim-box ). Two times thinner than a sidibox, can hold one or two disks. Disks are mounted on two sides, or only on one plus an illustration on the other. A variation of the thin sidebox is the single- sided box for singles ( English Maxislim J-Case ) with a thickness of 7 mm, the disk is attached to the back wall, while the front has a pocket for the cover. Such packages are extremely popular with music collectors who collect CDM and Maxi-singles of popular artists.
- Cardboard envelope ( eng. LP style case ). The disc is inserted into a cardboard envelope like packaging for vinyl records. The package can have either one or two disks (in this case, the packaging is in the form of a book and the disks are placed in its pockets). The disadvantage of this package is that the disks are not fixed inside it and can fall out or suffer from mechanical damage.
- Paper envelope ( English Paper sleeve ). The disc is inserted in a paper envelope, the upper part of which is usually folded and glued to fix the disc inside. They can be with or without a window. This packaging is technical, and discs in paper envelopes are rarely sold separately. One of the cheapest types of packaging.
- Plastic envelope ( English Tyvek sleeve ). The disc is embedded in a plastic envelope, the upper part of which is usually glued to the main one.
- A half-fabric envelope for a folder ( English Sleeve ). The fabric surface carefully handles the surface of the disc, which is especially true for DVD ± R / RW. It has a convenient cutout for access to the disc and a valve to prevent loss. Usually has two sides and necessarily perforation under the folder.
- Steel box ( eng. Steel-box ). Metal packaging with the shape, size and design as close as possible to the DVD-box. The outer part of the box is sealed with an image directly on the metal. Very strong and durable disc packaging option.
- Discbox ( eng. DiscBox ). The package is a rectangular case with absolutely smooth sides, without technical cuts and holes, like a standard DVD-box (amarey), which, in turn, eliminates dust and allows you to apply the printing image directly to plastic packaging. This eliminates the use of paper printing. Also a distinctive part of this package is the central “clip” lock, which guarantees 100% retention in the package without damage to the laser storage medium even when the box is open upside down. The “DiscBox” design has the ability to accommodate double-disc editions of CD / DVD / HD DVD / Blu-ray (disc to disc without physical damage).
