Biography
He began to compose music from the age of five. Seven years old was sent to study at the Vienna Conservatory , graduated with a silver medal. He performed in Vienna with concerts.
In 1895, he moved to Paris, studied with Jules Massenet , Martin Marsyc and Gabriel Faure on the same course as Guy Roparets .
In 1923 he debuted in New York as a conductor .
In the 1920-1930s he lived in Bucharest and Paris, after 1946 - in Paris, but actively gave concerts as a violinist and conductor in Europe and the USA. He performed in Moscow in 1909, 1919 and 1946. In 1932 he was elected a full member of the Romanian Academy [1] .
He played with White Bartok , Eugene Izay , Clara Haskil , Pablo Casals , David Oistrakh , Gyomar Novaish and other major performers. Among the students of Enescu are such outstanding violinists as Yehudi Menuhin , Arthur Grumio , Ginetette Neveau , Christian Ferrat , Leon Suruzhon .
Creativity
Among the are three symphonies, three piano and two string quartets, three violin and two cello sonatas, and vocal compositions to poems by French symbolists . The number of completed works of the master is small (33 opuses), many of his compositions (including two symphonies) remained unfinished.
Enescu music developed under the influence of European romanticism ( Schumann , Wagner , Brahms ). Later, developing in parallel with the search for Stravinsky , Prokofiev , and in the opera genre (opera Oedipus, 1910–1931 ) - Richard Strauss , absorbed the influence of the Novovensk school, neo-classicism , and neo-baroque. At all these stages, an appeal to Romanian folklore was invariably important and characteristic of Enescu (two of his Romanian Rhapsodies, 1901 and 1902, are widely known).
Memory
The village of Liven after the composer's death got his name; in Bucharest, a memorial museum. The name Enescu was given the Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra , as well as the University of the Arts of Iasi (1997).
Created by the International Society of George Enescu, under the auspices of which the composer’s legacy is published, collections of studies of his work are published. Every two years in Bucharest, the International Festival of Performers named after George Enescu takes place. Every year the Academy of Sciences of Romania awards an award to his name for outstanding musicians.
