Biography

Born in the village of Zagorsk Weight at Malacek . Initially, she was going to become an actress, then she took singing lessons in Brno and Prague . In 1963 she made her debut in Bratislava in the role of Queen of the Night in the Magic Flute . This party is ranked among the highest achievements of the singer; in the same year, after an invitation to the Vienna Opera, she recorded it under the direction of Otto Klemperer . Relations with the Vienna Opera Lucia Popp maintained throughout his career.

In 1966 she made her debut at Covent Garden , in 1967 at the Metropolitan Opera . Starting as a coloratura soprano, in the 70s the singer switched to lyrical parts, and later to parts in operas by Strauss and Wagner .

Died of a brain tumor.

Creativity

At different times and on different stages, Popp played such roles as Susanne and Countess in The Wedding of Figaro , Queen of the Night and Pamina in The Magic Flute, Zerlin, Donna Elvira and Donna Anna in Don Juan , Ennchen and Agatha in Free Arrow ” , Zdenka and Arabella in “ Arabella ” , Sophie and Marshall in “ Cavalier of the Rose ” , Olympia in “ Tales of Hoffmann ” , Eva in “ Nuremberg Mastersingers ” , etc.

There are also her recordings of Schubert’s songs, The Last Four Songs by R. Strauss, Mahler’s Boy’s Magic Horn.
