History
Previously, the ravine Varazishevi (Varazis Khevi) ran along the street, along the bottom of which the Vere River flowed. A bridge was built over the ravine along which the road to Tskhneti passed .
Urban development reached this territory at the beginning of the 20th century.
In 1906, the building of the noble gymnasium was erected behind the ravine (architect S. Kldiashvili , now the main building of Tbilisi University )
In 1948, backfilling of the ravine was started; the street was formed by 1957. The Vera River was enclosed in reinforced concrete pipes, the ravine in this section was filled up [1] .
On May 11, 1961, during his visit to Georgia, the USSR leader Nikita Khrushchev, welcomed by the townspeople, rode along the street [2] .
