About the album

By the early 1970s, Streisand's musical career was in decline, which led Columbia Records to create the first collection of her hits, which would serve as a summary of all the activities of Barbara in the 1960s. Streisand was not a single artist, she did not have a large number of successful singles. Between 1963 and 1969, only ten of her singles made it to the Billboard Hot 100 , and of these, only one, People, entered the top ten, and only one, Second Hand Rose, entered the top 40. Nevertheless, at that time already seven of her records were awarded gold certification, and nine were in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 .

The Streisand collection of the best hits includes seven singles that hit the Billboard Hot 100 at different times, one of Barbra’s very first singles “My Coloring Book” (the original version was recorded and released in 1962, but on the collection the song is presented in the version of The Second Barbra 1963 Streisand Album ), “Don't Rain on My Parade” from the soundtrack to the movie Funny Girl , loved by fans of “Gotta Move”, as well as “Happy Days Are Here Again” - one of the most famous songs from her first album. The other three singles that made it to the hundred Billboard Hot 100 were not included in the track list: 1964 Funny Girl ( No. 44 ), Where Am I Going 1966 ( No. 94 ) and 1967 Stout-Hearted Men years ( No. 92 ).

There are no songs on the album from the following albums: The Third Album , Simply Streisand , What About Today? and from the soundtrack Hello, Dolly! . “Happy Days Are Here Again” from Streisand's debut album is featured in a recording from her concert in Central Park . "Sam, You Made the Pants Too Long" was released only as part of a potpourri on the Color Me Barbra album, and the single version included in the compilation has not been released on any of its albums before.

The cover photo of the collection was taken by Lawrence Schiller , who shot Barbara for the promotion of her film “ On a Clear Day You Will See Eternity ”.

Commercial Success

The album debuted on the US Billboard 200 chart on February 28, 1970 from 77th place, and on March 28th reached its peak at 32 positions. Spent 30 weeks on the chart. On May 4, 1971, the album was certified as gold, and November 21, 1986 - as twice platinum [3] . The album was the second release of Streisand (the first one was My Name Is Barbra, Two ... ), which hit the UK album chart, it took 44th place [4] .
