Careware (from English care - care and English software - software ) - a type of shareware shareware . The author of this type of software requires that payment for it go to charity . A synonym for charityware .
These are non-traditional terms of use of programs, suggesting rather than selling, but the exchange of a software product for something valuable to the author. As a rule, such an exchange is not necessary (your “product” is regarded more as a sign of attention), and you can use Careware software in the same way as Freeware.
The author of Careware is Paul Lutus. He explains the principle of Careware as follows: “Sometimes money is a bad equivalent for some transactions. However, the acquisition of Arachnophilia (HTML-editor) on CareWare terms is a deal ... You can use the program, provided that you stop complaining about difficulties and your life, at least for a while ... However, if you do not fulfill this condition, no one will knock at night on your a door".
An example of Careware is the Vim text editor. Vim is free software, but includes a request from its author, Brahma Molenar , for users to donate to the ICCF Holland fund to help AIDS victims in Uganda . Richard Stallman stated that the Vim license is GPL- compliant. [one]
