Vasily Polikarpovich Dmitriyev ( March 4, 1901 , Kozelsk , Kaluga Province , Russian Empire - September 26, 1967 , Tula ) - Soviet commander, guards major general of artillery ( May 13, 1942 ) [1] . Member of the Civil War (Red Army), the subsequent military action to defend the USSR, the Great Patriotic War. Member of the CPSU (b) - CPSU (since 1938).

Prewar Biography

Vasily Polikarapovich Dmitriev was born on March 4, 1901 and in Kozelsk, Kaluga Region, in a working-class family. Russian.

March 8, 1919 was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . A graduate of the Artillery Academy of the Red Army. F.E. Dzerzhinsky ( 1939 ). He proved himself during the battles at Khalkhin Gol . For the exemplary performance of the tasks of command during the defeat of the Japanese troops, he was awarded the Order of the Red Star . By the beginning of World War II from the commander of the battery had reached the commander of the artillery of the army.

Participation in the Great Patriotic War

From June 22, 1941, Colonel V. Dmitriev - commander of artillery of the 51st army [2] . In May 1942 he was promoted to major general artillery.

Participated in the Battle of Stalingrad . From the first days of August 1942, Dmitriev headed the ADD group of heavy regiments, which he was able to divert from the Don partly by retaining the material part. Of these units, the Stalingrad Heavy Artillery Division was created, which later played an important role in the defense of Stalingrad, supporting 62 and 64 armies. Subsequently, the commander of the 19th Guards Stalingrad Heavy Artillery Division [3] , the deputy commander of the 65th Army for artillery, the commander of the artillery of the 70th Army.

According to the award list, under the leadership of Dmitriev, the division destroyed 45 batteries of various calibers, 34 battalions of manpower, 57 tanks were destroyed, 240 DZOTs were destroyed, 5 aircraft were shot down, up to 200 batteries were suppressed, dispersed and partially destroyed, up to 64 regiments, 300 tanks, repulsed by artillery fire dozens of German attacks. In the division, up to 700 people received state awards. For participation in the Battle of Stalingrad Dmitriev was presented to the Order of the Red Banner. [four]

He participated in the Battle of Kursk, the liberation of Warsaw, the capture of Berlin.

Post War Career

After the war, continued service in the army.

From 1945 to 1949 - Head of the Military Faculty of the Kharkov Mining and Industrial Institute of the Coal Industry of the USSR; from 1949 to 1952 - deputy commander of an artillery battalion; from 1952 to 1955 - commander of the 6th Guards Artillery Attack Division; From 1955 to 1961 - Head of the Military Faculty of the Tula Mechanical Institute. In 1961, the Major General of Artillery resigned. After retirement he lived in the hero-city of Thule .

Vasily Polikarpovich Dmitriev died on September 26, 1967 . Buried in Tula .

Family

His first wife Edita Yakovlevna Jacobson, with whom he broke up after he met his second wife. The second wife is Lidiya Grigorievna, a teacher at the university, the sons are Vladimir (1943–1998), Igor (1947–1981).
