Myanmar's military industry

Myanmar (Burma) since the 1950s. It has its own military industry, which was facilitated by a prolonged civil war against various ethnic groups, the Kuomintang soldiers and the CPB . This structure, called Ka Pa Sa (Defense Industry), is state owned and includes 13 military factories that produce about 70 types of products that are most needed for the needs of the ground forces, the Air Force and the Navy of Myanmar. The main products are machine guns , machine guns , submachine guns , air defense guns, a wide range of shells and mines, ammunition for aircraft weapons and air defense, anti-tank weapons (including mines), bombs, grenades, anti-personnel mines (such as M-14) , commercial explosives and products, missiles, etc. The nomenclature of light weapons produced at these plants contains the letters BA (Burmese army, Burmese army) or MA (Myanmar Army, Myanmar army).

Heavy Weapons

The production of heavy weapons (Myanmar Heavy Industries) was established with Ukrainian assistance mainly in order to assemble and maintain the fleet of the BTR-3U armed forces of Myanmar. It is expected that in 10 years, 1000 wheeled armored personnel carriers BTR-3U from units sent from Ukraine will be assembled in Myanmar. This armored personnel carrier is equipped with modern weapons systems, including a 30 mm cannon and a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun, 30 mm automatic grenade launcher and ATGM.

Also produced are infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers MAV 1, MAV 2 and BAAC APCs. Little is known about the MAV BMP , but it is reported that it only 60% consists of components manufactured domestically, and some key parts, such as the LMS , turrets, engine and transmission, are purchased in China from NORINCO industries . In addition to the BTR-3U, BMV MAV and BAC BAAC, heavy weapons factories produce military trucks and jeeps for the ground forces, air force and navy.

Licensed Weapons

Myanmar’s military industry produced the following weapons under license:

  1. Submachine gun TZ-45 (BA-52).
  2. HK G3 assault rifle (BA-63 // BA-72 / BA-100).

Copies and Own Inventions

Since the 1990s in Myanmar, work was underway to create modern types of small arms to replace outdated Western models and reduce the dependence of the army's supply on foreign arms supplies. The result of these efforts was the creation and adoption of several types of small arms:

  1. Submachine gun BA-94 ( mini Uzi with a fixed plastic butt type HK 33).
  2. Assault rifles MA-11 (HK-33), MA-1 and MA-3 (also known as EMERK ). Machine MA-1 (EMER-K1) has a bullpup layout and works on the principle of removal of powder gases , except for this nothing is known about it. The MA-3 submachine gun (EMER-K3) is a licensed copy of Galil with the possibility of using the M-203 grenade launcher .
  3. Machine gun MA-15 ( Rheinmetall MG3 ).
  4. Light machine guns MA-12 (heavier version of the machine gun MA-11), BA-64 (assault rifle G3A2 with bipods and a heavy barrel G4) et MA-2 (also known as EMER-K1 LMG, machine gun MA-1 with bipods), MA -4 (also known as EMER-K3 LMG, licensed copy of the Galil ARM light machine gun).
