Biography

From the peasants. [1] Born May 21, 1918 in the village of Melekhovo, Yaroslavl province . [2] [3] [1]

He graduated with honors from the geological-soil-geographical faculty of Leningrad University (years of study 1936-1941) [1] [2] and was left at the department of mineralogy [1] .

June 25, 1941 he volunteered for the army, commanded a platoon and company ( Leningrad Front ) [1] [3] . In a battle near Kolpino in August 1942, he was seriously wounded, as a result of which he lost his right arm and left leg. Discharged by disability. [one]

He returned to the department at Leningrad University. [1] Taught in 1946 [2] —1997 [3] , professor since 1962 [3] . In 1966 he organized at the Leningrad State University a laboratory of genetic mineralogy , in 1967 - the department of geochemistry , which he headed until 1992. In 1951 he defended his thesis [1] , since 1961 - Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences (1962) [1] [3] . Scientific supervisor of several doctoral and more than 30 master's theses [3] .

In 1948, he created the Club of Young Geologists at the Leningrad Palace of Pioneers , which brought up many future specialists, which he oversaw until the end of his life. [1] On his initiative, for the first time in the USSR, in 1976, the training of specialists in the field of environmental geochemistry began at Leningrad State University [2] . The organizer and participant of the expedition to the Khibiny tundra , where he studied the mineralogy of apophyllite veins of apatite deposits of Mount Yukspor [3] . Initiator of creation and editor of the journals “Questions of geochemistry and typomorphism of minerals”, “Questions of ecology and environmental protection” [3] .

The main works are devoted to the mineralogy and geochemistry of tungsten and its deposits, genetic mineralogy [2] [3] . The author of more than 300 scientific papers [1] [3] , including 4 monographs, the most important of which is the three-volume “Tungsten deposits”, 8 textbooks and teaching aids, including the textbook “Geochemistry”.
