Song title and lyrics

The song “Asereje” was written by the producer of the group Manuel Ruiz [1] .

The title of the song, as well as the chorus, is a pun punched string from the 1979 rap hit "Rapper's Delight" performed by The Sugarhill Gang:

I said a hip, hop, the hippie to the hippie

Aserejé ja de jé de jebe

the hip-hip-hop, a you don't stop

tu de jebere sebiunouva (seibiunouva)

the rock it to the bang bang boogie say up jumped the boogie

The American Billboard magazine explained the text to its English-speaking readers:

 The hero of the song is Diego, a suspicious guy wandering around the streets to the sounds of reggae and hip-hop. His favorite thing is the song by Sugarhill Gang , whose words to [Hispanic] girls [from the Las Ketchup group] are heard as “Aserehe a de e de ebay tudei ...” and so on until the end of the chorus.

- Have you ever heard this Sugarhill Gang song? - asks [Las Ketchup member] Lola [from the Billboard correspondent]. - Just try to sing it very quickly, and the words [of our song] will [come out].

- We created it half as a joke, without any hopes and expectations, and perhaps that is why people liked it so much [1] .		 

Success Story

In Spain, the single with the song "Aserejé" was released on June 10, 2002.

By September, he had already sold about 33 thousand copies in the country, and for Spain, where people bought singles in general (bought albums as a whole) and where it could be enough to sell only 2-3 in a week to get to the first place on the single chart thousands of copies, it was a very large, almost unbelievable number [1] .
