Geographical position
Roberval is located on the southwestern shore of Lake Saint-Jean [1] . The city is the administrative center of the regional municipality of Le Domaine du Roi. Roberval is the third largest city on Lake Saint-Jean after Alma and Dolbeau-Mistassini .
History
Roberval was named after the first Lieutenant General of the King in New France, Jean-Francois de la Roque de Roberval (1500-1560). The land on which the city is located was acquired by Thomas Jamm in 1855. The settlement was founded in 1859. The growth of the city was associated with the development of the forest industry. In 1888, the Quebec-Lake Saint-Jacques railway company carried the railway to Robertville. In 1903, the settlement became a city. In 1976, Roberval merged with the arrival of Saint-Jean-de-Brebeuf. The city is a navigation center for Lake Saint-Jean and a resort [1] [2] [3] .
Population
According to the 2011 census, 10,227 people lived in Roberval. The average age is 48.3 years. 13.3% of the city's population were children under the age of 14, 6.2% - the population from 15 to 19 years old, 20.0% - from 20 to 39 years old, 32.0% - from 40 to 59 years old, 28.4% - people over 65 years old. Out of 8865 people over 15 years old, 3040 were officially married, 1890 were in a civil marriage, 2475 were never married. There are 2830 households and 1470 families in Roberval, the average number of people in a family is 2.7 people, in the household 2.1. In 98.9% of the population, their only mother tongue is French, only 0.3% of the population recognized English as their only mother tongue [4] .
In 2011, 58.7% of the city’s population over 25 received higher education (59.6% at the national level), with 18.2% having a university diploma or degree, 19.7% having a college diploma and 20.8% a trade certificate. The median family income after tax in 2010 was $ 58,097 [5] .
