Construction of the memorial began in 1972. The entire Ilinden memorial complex was officially opened on August 2, 1974 to the 30th anniversary of the second session of the Anti-Fascist Assembly of National Liberation of Macedonia and the 71st anniversary of the uprising in Ilinden against the Ottoman Empire [1] .
