Biography

Roman Rentsky was born on July 19, 1867 in a Polish city of Rzeszow to a peasant family. He graduated from high school in Rzeszow, and in 1890 - the medical faculty of the Jagiellonian University . In 1894, Rentsky defended his thesis, receiving a doctorate in all medical sciences, after which he worked as an assistant clinic at the medical faculty of the Jagiellonian University. He took an active part in the fight against the cholera epidemic in Krakow in 1894. In 1897, he moved to the University of Lviv Jan Casimir, taking the post of assistant of the clinic. In 1902 he defended his doctoral thesis, after which he became an assistant professor. In 1907, Rentsky was promoted to the position of associate professor, and in 1920 - professor and head of the clinic. In 1924 - 1926 he was the dean of the medical faculty. In addition, he headed the department of internal diseases of a general hospital in Lviv from 1897 to 1920 .

After the Polish campaign and the establishment of Soviet power, Rentsky retired in October 1939 and was soon arrested on charges of financially supporting the Polish underground. Contained in prison until the beginning of World War II . After the German occupation of Lviv on the night of July 3-4, 1941, Rentsky was shot by the German occupiers, along with a group of representatives of Lviv intellectuals of Polish origin.

In 1934 Rentsky was elected a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Knowledge. For some time he headed the Lviv Society of Physicians (later was an honorary member). In addition, he was elected an honorary member of the medical societies in Lublin and Czestochowa . Organized material support for talented medical students.

He was actively engaged in research in the field of hematology and gastrology, studied leukemia, tuberculosis and malaria. Published a large number of scientific papers.

He was awarded the Commander Cross of the Order of the Revival of Poland.
