From 1322 to 1327 he studied at the University of Bologna , where he met with Petrarch and attended with him the lessons of Giovanni di Andrea [3] . Francesco Petrarca and Giacomo Colonna became best friends, Giacomo introduced Petrarch to his family, who patronized the poet until he supported the Roman "tribune" Cola di Rienzi in 1347 . In 1328, Giacomo Colonna was elected bishop of Lombes in Gascony [4] and held this post until his death in 1341 [2] . After the death of Giacomo, Petrarch dedicated to him 322 and 323 sonnets in his Canzoniere [5] .
