Biography
Agnessa Visconti was the daughter of Bernabo Visconti and Beatrice Regina of the Scull case , she was the ninth child out of seventeen children born in this family. Agnes and the rest of her sisters were provided with parents by politically advantageous marriages. For example, her sister Taddea Visconti married Stephen III , Duke of Bavaria , and was the mother of Isabella of Bavaria , Queen of France [3] ; another sister, Verde Visconti , married the Duke of Austria, Leopold III of Habsburg [4] [5] .
Bernabo Visconti gave a rich dowry to Agnes, it included: 50,000 kroons of gold and the cities of Parma , Cremona , Brescia and Bergamo . In 1375, Agnes Visconti married Francesco I Gonzaga, people's captain of Mantua . This marriage was made for reconciliation between Milan and Mantua [6] .
In May 1385, Gian Galeazzo Visconti deposed Agnes's father, after which he died in prison. After that, Agnes was accused of adultery with one of her bodyguards, although some sources point to the political subtext of this case and connect it with the collapse of the union of Milan and Mantua [2] . On February 7, 1391, Agnes Visconti was beheaded, and her alleged lover, Antonio di Sandiano, was hanged in the courtyard of the Palazzo Ducale [6] [7] , where there is a commemorative sign of his death [6] . Two years after the death of Agnes Visconti, her husband Francesco I Gonzaga married a second time to Margarita Malatesta , thereby cementing an alliance with Rimini against Visconti [2] .
