White Crater ( lat. White ) - a large impact crater in the southern hemisphere of the far side of the moon . The name was given in honor of the American astronaut Edward Higgins White (1930–1967) and approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1970. The formation of the crater dates back to the late Imperial period [1] .

Crater Description
The closest neighbors of the White Crater are the Maksutov Crater in the west-north-west; Apollo crater in the north-north-east and Hendrix crater in the south [3] . Selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater , diameter 42.3 km [4] , depth 2.8 km [1]
White Crater has a circular shape with small protrusions in the eastern and northeastern parts and is moderately destroyed. The shaft is somewhat flattened, but retained a fairly clear outline, a noticeable bowl-shaped crater adjoins the western part of the shaft. The inner slope of the rampart is terraced, the northern and southeastern parts of the inner slope are marked by small craters. The shaft height above the surrounding area reaches 1020 m [1] , the volume of the crater is approximately 1100 km³ [1] . The bottom of the bowl is crossed, the central peak is somewhat offset south of the center of the bowl. The composition of the central peak - gabbro - norito - troctolite anorthosite with a plagioclase content of 80-85% (GNTA2); anorthosite gabbro (AG); anorthositic norite (AN); gabbro-norit (GN) [5] .
