Tales of eternia online

Tales of Eternia Online ( Japanese テ イ ル ズ オ ブ エ タ ー ニ ア オ ン ラ イ イ Teirudzu Obu Eta: Nia Onrain ) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Namco and Dwango and released March 3, 2006 in Japan. This game is the first MMORPG in the series . Events unfolded in the same universe as in the Tales of Eternia game for the PlayStation , immediately after the Reed squad crossed the Bridge of Light and went to Celestia.

The first stage of closed beta testing began on July 7, 2005 (although it was originally planned for the beginning of spring), the second - January 16, 2006. The open beta testing lasted from February 16 to 28 of the same year. After just a year, in January 2007, Namco announced that game servers would be disconnected on March 31, 2007. This was due to the fact that the game was not very popular, and the number of active accounts was constantly falling [1] .

Gameplay

Each player had the opportunity to create a character in one of five classes . The prototype for each class was the character Tales of Eternia .

  • Swordsman is a melee master, inflicting significant physical damage. It can be equipped with weapons such as a sword, dagger, spear and ax. The prototype was made by Rassius.
  • Warrior is the only character that can be equipped with a shield. It has high defense rates and special skills that protect the entire squad. The prototype of this class was Reed, the protagonist of Tales of Eternia .
  • Cleric - specializes in healing and buffing other characters. The prototype was Meredi.
  • Mage - Deals significant damage with his spells. Keel became the prototype.
  • Fighter - thanks to high dexterity indicators, he can easily dodge attacks and perform combined tricks . In addition, the fighter has several support skills. The prototype was Farah.

A squad can contain no more than four characters of any class. The number of experience points obtained after the battle is calculated based on the average level of all players in the squad, and players of a higher level receive a larger share. However, you can adjust the settings so that all participants in the battle will receive the same amount of experience.

The combat system is very similar to the one in Tales of Eternia : the battlefield is two-dimensional, characters can only move back and forth and jump (jumps are performed automatically, depending on the position of the target) [2] . If a squad has attacked a monster, then other players cannot join the battle - this is done in order to avoid "theft" of experience. However, if necessary, players can press the “panic button”, asking other participants to help them.

In addition to battles, players could explore the world, communicate with each other, engage in cooking and perform other actions [2] .
