Taxonomy

For the first time, a new species was scientifically described in 2008 [4] . The holotype is a 27.4 cm long male, caught off the coast of Queensland ( ) at a depth of 312-318 m. Paratypes: females 23 , 4–27.9 cm, males 8.3–18.2 long, caught there at a depth of 303–405 [5] .

Range

These stingrays are endemic to the east coast of Australia . They are found in the upper part of the continental slope at a depth of 300 to 405 m [2] .

Description

The broad and flat pectoral fins of these slopes form a rhombic disk with a wide triangular snout and rounded edges. On the ventral side of the disc are 5 gill slits, nostrils and mouth. The tail is longer than the disk. There are lateral folds on the tail. These skates have 2 reduced dorsal fins and a reduced caudal fin [1] .

The maximum recorded length is 27.9 cm [2] .

Human Interaction

These ramps are not the target fishing target. Intensive fishing in the range is absent. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has assigned the conservation status of “Least Concerns” [2] .
