OpenMPT (originally ModPlug Tracker) is a Windows tracker developed by Olivier Lapicque . It was originally developed as a plug-in for Internet browsers, called Modplugin, and designed to allow Internet users to listen to music in tracker modules (for example, IT , XM , S3M, and MOD ) hosted on some sites. Later, the plugin evolved into the more complex ModPlug Player and ModPlug Tracker [3] . As it was originally, the program is free and distributed under the GNU GPL license .

The main difference between ModPlug Tracker and similar trackers for Windows is an improved, but nevertheless “classic” graphical interface using such features of the Windows interface as context menus in the sequencer panel, drag-and-drop , etc. In addition, ModPlug Tracker supports editing and saving to the main classic tracker formats (MOD, S3M, XM, IT), it has the ability to import samples from many formats of audio files and sampler banks (for example, SoundFont ).
In December 1999, Olivier Lapic provided parts of the program code to be added to the XMMS project (exists in the form of the libmodplug library).
For lack of time, Olivier Lapic stopped the independent development of ModPlug Tracker and at the beginning of 2004 shared the entire program code under an open license. The program is currently being actively developed by a group of enthusiastic programmers at SourceForge.net .
In addition, on the basis of the modplug engine, the library of the same name was created for the popular gstreamer framework.
ModPlug Player
ModPlug Player was developed in parallel with ModPlug Tracker as a stand-alone player for tracker modules. Among the main advantages - support for a huge number of module formats, the presence of sound effects, support for Winamp plugins and the ability to open compressed modules (compressed ZIP , RAR or LHA ).
