If You're Happy and You Know It

“ If You're Happy and You Know It ” is an American children's song . The date of the first publication in English is unknown [1] , but the song appeared somewhere in the middle of the 20th century [2] .

The author of the text of the first couplet is usually considered Alfred B. Smith (1916-2001) [3] [4] , the remaining couplets are folk [3] [2] . There are also suggestions that the song “If You're Happy and You Know It” has its roots in the Latvian folk song [5] [6] [7] . In addition, her resemblance to the song “Youth” from the 1938 Soviet film “ Volga, Volga ” (composer Isaak Dunaevsky ) was noticed [1] .

Text

As usual for children's songs, its lyrics have different versions. One of the popular versions starts like this:

If you are happy and know about it, clap your hands!
(clap clap)
If you are happy and know about it, clap your hands!
(clap clap)
If you are happy and know it, and you really want to show it;
If you are happy and know about it, clap your hands!
(clap clap)

If you are happy and know about it, stamp your feet!
(top, top)
If you are happy and know about it, stamp your feet!
(top, top)
If you are happy and know it, and you really want to show it;
If you are happy and know about it, stamp your feet!
(top, top)

Other popular Russian versions of the song begin “If you like it, then do it this way”, “If you have fun, do this”

If you like it, then do so / claps /
If you like it, then do so / claps /
If you like it, then show it to others, If you like it, then do this: / pops /

If you have fun,
Do so!
If you have fun,
Do so!
If you have fun,
We smile at each other
If you have fun,
Do so!
