Biography

Jean-Claude Brondany was born on February 2, 1944 in the commune of the Ouy department of Yvelines . He began to actively engage in judo from early childhood, was trained at the local sports club Gant d'Or d'Houilles.

He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in 1964, when he joined the French national team and attended the European Championships in East Berlin, from where he brought the bronze dignity award, won in heavyweight among amateurs. In 1970, at the European Championship in the same Berlin, he again became a bronze medalist, but already in the absolute weight category.

At the 1972 European Championships in the Dutch city of Voorburg, Brondani won the silver medal in the absolute category, having suffered the only defeat in the final from the titled Dutchman Willem Ruske . Thanks to a series of successful performances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Summer Olympic Games in Munich - he fought here both in the heavy and absolute weight categories, in the first case he won only fifth place, while in the second case he won a bronze Olympic medal. Soon after the end of these competitions, he decided to end his career as a professional athlete, giving way to young French judokas in the national team.
