Elegant harlequin [1] ( Atelopus elegans ) is a species of toads of the genus Atelopus from the family Bufonidae .

Description
The body length of males is 21–23 mm, females - 31–35 mm [2] . Body coloration is dark brown with reddish-brown longitudinal stripes. Sometimes white longitudinal stripes pass from the eyes to the groin [3] .
Distribution
This species is found in the north-west of Ecuador in the provinces of Esmeraldas , Imbabura and Pichincha at an altitude of 300 to 1140 m above sea level, as well as on the small Colombian island of Gorgon [3] , which is located 30 km from the Colombian Pacific coast.
The species lives in low-lying and piedmont moist rainforests [2] , not found in degraded habitats. Spawns in streams.
