History
The history of the archive began on May 20, 1937 when, by Decree No. 123 on the Moscow Regional Archival Administration, three archives were formed as independent institutions: the Moscow Regional Historical Archive, the Moscow Military District Archive and the October Revolution Archive of the Moscow Region, which became the basis of the current TsGAMO. The October Revolution Archive had three archives located in former church buildings. After the start of World War II, the most valuable documents of the archive, renamed in May 1941 the State Archive of the October Revolution and Socialist Construction (GAORSS) of the Moscow Region, were originally evacuated to Saratov , and then to Shadrinsk and Barnaul and returned to Moscow in 1944-1945 .
The modern archive building (Moscow, Azovskaya str., 17) was built in 1960, and then the movement of documents from churches and other buildings adapted for archival storage began.
In 1962, significant changes took place in the structure of archival institutions of the Moscow Region, which significantly affected the composition of the archive funds. In accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR of June 12, 1962 and the order of the head of the Archival Department of the Moscow Region Executive Committee, more than 2 thousand funds (about 2.5 million storage units) were transferred from the State Historical Archive of the Moscow Region to the Archive Department of the Moscow City Executive Committee, which was established in the same year. Later, he was transferred and funds GAORSS Moscow region related to the history of Moscow. Thus, the first division of archival documents between the city and the region occurred.
By the decision of the Moscow Oblast Executive Committee of December 6, 1965, the Moscow Regional Public Autonomous Regional Public Safety Archive was renamed the State Archive of the Moscow Region (GAMO), and on October 30, 1980 it was transformed into the Central State Archive of the Moscow Region by order of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR.
In 2011, the status of TsGAMO changed, becoming the state treasury institution in the Moscow region.
