Biography
Bruno Carabetta was born on July 27, 1966 in the city of Mulhouse, department of the Upper Rhine . He began to actively engage in judo from early childhood, was trained in Paris at the capital's sports club Racing Club de France.
He achieved his first major success at the adult international level in 1988, when he joined the main team of the French national team and attended the European Championships in Pamplona, Spain, from where he brought the golden dignity prize won in the featherweight category. Thanks to a series of successful performances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul - he won the bronze Olympic medal here, having suffered the only defeat at the stage of the semi-finals from Korean Lee Gyung Geun , who eventually became the Olympic champion.
After the Seoul Olympics, Carabetta remained in the main squad of the French national team and continued to take part in major international tournaments. So, in 1989, he won the European Championship in Helsinki and received bronze at the World Championships in Belgrade. A year later, for the third time in a row, he won the European title, defeated all rivals in competitions in German Frankfurt. In 1992, he rose to the lightweight category and won a silver medal at the European home championship in Paris - in the decisive match he was defeated by the Austrian Norbert Heimberger .
Being one of the leaders of the judo team of France, Bruno Carabetta successfully qualified for the Olympic Games in Barcelona - this time he did not manage to get into the number of winners, took only fifth place in the lightweight category. Soon after the end of these competitions, he decided to end his career as a professional athlete, giving way to young French judokas in the national team.
