History
For the first time, “Once upon a Mattress” appeared in front of the audience in the form of a short play on the stage of Tamiment Summer Camp for Adults in 1958. A little later, the script was developed for the Broadway scene. On May 11, 1959, the world premiere of the musical at the Phoenix Theater took place on Off-Broadway . The first reviews of the performance were mixed, but the production had a steady popularity. This could not surprise critics and actors. Soon the musical moved to the Broadway theater " Alvin ". Replacing several theaters, the production completed its rental in St. James on July 2, 1960 [1] .
