Biography
Leonid Subbotin was born on February 26 ( March 10 ), 1889 [1] in Moscow . He grew up without a father, was brought up in an orphanage. He graduated from Komissarovskoye technical school [2] . In 1910 he began literary work. Subbotin was one of the organizers of the Experimental Studio of the Satire Theater in Moscow (1920-1922) [1] [3] . With the participation of Subbotin in Moscow in 1923, the first Peasant Theater in the USSR was created. In this theater, he was the author and director of "agropies" [1] . Together with V.Z. Mass, he wrote the plays “Village Novy” (“Komsomol members in the Village”, 1924), “Another Heart” (1933) [3] , “Old Friend”, “Lost Game” and others. The play "Sorokin's Pelageya" (1925) was staged at the Korsh Theater (1929) [1] . Subbotin was the author of many plays for peasant amateur performances, which were included in the collections “Remake the Face of the Earth” and “Laughter and Work” (1930) [3] . He also worked with young playwrights [2] .
In 1925-1929 he worked as deputy editor of the Village Theater magazine. In 1934-1936, he was deputy editor-in-chief of the journal “Kolkhoz Theater”. From 1924 to 1936 he worked in the Central House of Arts in the village (Polenovsky House), in the Central House of Amateur Art (TSEDISK), in the Krupskaya Central House of Folk Art. The author of articles about amateur theater. He wrote a number of books on directing and teaching aids for amateur village circles [1] .
After the start of World War II, he joined the militia [1] . He died in 1941 in the battle for Moscow [3] .
