Hugo Legrand ( fr. Ugo Legrand ; born January 22, 1989 , Mont Saint-Enigne ) is a lightweight French judoka who played for the French team in the first half of the 2010s. Bronze medalist of the Summer Olympic Games in London, silver and bronze medalist of the World Championships, European champion, winner of many tournaments of national and international importance.

Biography

Hugo Legrand was born on January 22, 1989 in the commune of Mont Saint-Aignan of the Seine-Seine department . He began to actively engage in judo from early childhood, was trained in Orleans at the local sports club USO judo.

He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in 2010, when he joined the main team of the French national team and attended the European Championships in Vienna, from where he brought the bronze dignity award won in the light weight category. A year later, at the home world championships in Paris, he again became a bronze medalist.

In 2012, Legrand won the European championship in Chelyabinsk, in particular, in the final match he defeated the Ukrainian judoka Vladimir Soroka , and thanks to a series of successful performances he won the right to defend the country's honor at the Summer Olympic Games in London . He defeated the first two rivals here, but was defeated by Dutchman Dex Elmont in the quarterfinals of the main tournament bracket . In the consolation meetings for third place, he defeated both opponents, Tajik Rasul Bokiev and Korean Van Ki Chun , and thereby won a bronze Olympic medal.

After the London Olympics, Southeast Legrand remained in the main part of the judo team of France and continued to take part in major international tournaments. So, in 2013, he became the silver medalist of the world championship in Rio de Janeiro, where he suffered the only defeat in the final from the Japanese Shokhei Ono . The following season, he received silver at the European home championship in Montpellier, losing to the Dutchman Elmont in a decisive battle. Soon after the end of these competitions in 2015, he decided to end his career as a professional athlete, giving way to young French judokas in the national team.
