Biography
He graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of Padua , in 1871 he became a doctor of law. At the same time, he studied playing the musical instruments (lute, flute, cello) and got acquainted with musical theory. Later he devoted his life to the study of ancient, mainly lute, music, as well as folk songs of the 16th century and musical aesthetics. He deciphered the complex lute tablature, translating it into a modern notation. He published an anthology of ancient Italian music, “Library of Musical Rarity” ( Italian: Biblioteca di rarità musicali ) in 9 volumes (1883-1915). He appeared in the press as a music critic. He gave concerts as a lute player, performing his own arrangements.
