Baron Bethell from Romford in Essex is a hereditary title in the United Kingdom Prayer system . It was created on November 23, 1922 for the British banker and liberal politician, Sir John Betella, 1st Baronet (1861-1945). Previously, he sat in the House of Commons of Great Britain from Romford (1906–1918) and North East Ham (1918–1922). On June 26, 1911, the title of baronet from Romford in Essex had already been created for him. The baronial title was handed down from father to son until the early death in 1967 of Guy Anthony John Bethel, 3rd Baron Bethel (1928-1967). He was replaced by his cousin , Nicholas William Bethell, 4th Baron Bethell (1938–2007). He was the son of the Honorable William Gladstone Bethella, the third son of the 1st Baron Bethel. The 4th Lord Bethell was a historian and conservative politician. In 1979–1994 and 1999–2004 he was elected a deputy to the European Parliament .
As of 2010, the title bearer was his eldest son, James Nicholas Betell, 5th Baron Bethell (born 1967 ), who replaced his father in 2010 .
