Zinaida Grigorievna Veis-Ksenofontova (October 24, 1888 - October 21, 1961) - Soviet scientist- seismologist , founder and first director of the seismic station in Yekaterinburg (Sverdlovsk).

Biography

She was born in the village of Breitovo, Mologsky district, Yaroslavl province, in the family of medical paramedic Grigory Andreyevich Arkharov.

She graduated from the Mologic City Gymnasium (1907, with a gold medal) and the Department of Physics and Mathematics of the Higher Women's Bestuzhev Courses in St. Petersburg (1913).

From 1913 to 1955 - Director of the seismic station in Yekaterinburg (Sverdlovsk). She did not stop working either during the Civil War or during the Great Patriotic War [1] .

In 1914 she became the wife of a researcher Ewald Weiss. Widowed, in 1927 she remarried, hence the double surname Vais-Ksenofontova.

In 1946, he was awarded the title of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences without defending a dissertation.

She was awarded the Orders of Lenin (1953) and the Badge of Honor .

In 1955 she retired, transferring the leadership of the seismic station to her son - Yuri Evaldovich Weiss, who worked in this position until 1982.

She was buried at the Shirokorechensky cemetery in Yekaterinburg .
