Machine tool industry in the Republic of Belarus

The formation of Stankotrest on May 29, 1929 was the date of the official creation of an independent industry. In 1930, on the basis of the association of machine-tool and tool trusts, the State All-Union Association of the Machine Tool Industry Soyuzstankoinstrument was established . The reconstruction of existing enterprises and the construction of new ones made it possible to increase production capacities for the production of metal-cutting machines in the years of the First Five-Year Plan (1929–32) by 2.5 times. During the years of the 2nd Five-Year Plan (1933–37), the number of machine-tool factories increased by 1.8 times, and the output of machine tools increased by more than 2 times. ^[1] . The Moscow Machine Tool Institute was opened for training specialists; machine-tool faculties at MVTU im. N. E. Bauman and the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute. M.I. Kalinina.

In the 1970s, the economy of the BSSR focused on the technical re-equipment of industry, the introduction of highly efficient technology. ^[2] . For 1970-1985. 186 industrial enterprises were commissioned: the automatic lines factory in Baranovichi, the tool factory in Orsha, and the agricultural engineering plants in Lida and Bobruisk .

In the independent Republic of Belarus, machine tool construction was retained in full and is part of the former machine tool industry of the Soviet Union.

• The Minsk Masherov Automatic Lines Plant (MZAL) - the main activity of the enterprise is the production of high-performance metal-cutting equipment for individual orders in order to equip the enterprises of the machine-building complex. ^[3] . Customers: VAZ , GAZ MAZ and others.

The main products : special lathes (vertical and horizontal) with CNC and cycle programmed control ^[4] .

• Orsha Machine Tool Plant "Red Borets" - is a major manufacturer of precision equipment. It is part of the Belstankoinstrument holding ^[5] .
• Stankoindustriya - produces gantry machines with CNC.
• A branch of ATLANT CJSC (company) Baranavichy Machine Tool Plant - produces compressors for Atlant refrigerators, engines for washing machines, various types of plastic processing equipment and band-cutting machines. ^[6] .
• Stankotechinkom - production of slot machines. Location: Minsk.
• Gomel Machine Tool Plant named after Kirova is an enterprise producing modern vertical and horizontal machining centers. Manufacturer of universal console milling machines, including mortising machines. Included in Belstankoinstrument Holding. It is a powerful competitor to machine tool companies in Central Asia, for example, Tong-Tai Machine and Tool Co., Ltd. ^[7] .
• Mogilev Plant Strommashina OJSC is an enterprise specializing in the production of technological lines and separate equipment for the production of building materials, reinforced concrete sleepers, tower cranes, oil production, mining equipment, cast-iron tubing, as well as consumer goods.
• Gomel Plant of Machine Tool Units OJSC - manufactures CNC lathes, screw-cutting lathes, drilling machines, and machine-tool units ^[8] .
• VISTAN Machine Tool Plant - the production of basic centerless grinding machines with a fixed grinding wheel head, universal turning, center grinding, gear milling, gear shaping and rounding lathes, circular grinding and gear processing machines with CNC, modernization of the CNC machining center. In total, the nomenclature of the plant has more than 850 basic models and modifications. Located in the city of Vitebsk .
• MZOR OJSC specializes in the creation of heavy milling machines for high-precision 5-axis machining of forming surfaces of dies, molds, models and various 3D voluminous surfaces of large-sized steel and cast iron parts, as well as products from light alloys.
• OJSC "Machine Tool Plant named. S. M. Kirova ” (Minsk) - the only manufacturer of broaching metalworking machines in the CIS; also produces tape-cutting equipment ^[9] .
• ZAO NPO Vektor - production of industrial drilling machines on an electromagnetic basis, as well as universal machines for edge processing before welding. Located in the city of Grodno .
• Beltekhnologiya i M CJSC is a producer of cross-wedge rolling, induction heating and production of cutting elements for road and mining machines. The organization has a design office and production. ^[10] . Created in 1992.
• ODO "BMT company" - manufactures CNC plasma cutting units, supplies metalworking and woodworking equipment, including CNC. Created in 2007.
• OJSC Molodechno Machine Tool Plant is one of the oldest enterprises in the machine tool industry in the production of vertical drilling machines. According to the results of work for 2004, machine-tool production amounted to 42%, consumer goods - 7.5%, gearboxes, spare parts and components - 47% of the total output.
• LLC Engineering Center AMT Engineering specializes in the design and manufacture of equipment, the development of technological processes in the field of metal forming.
• Pinsk Experimental Mechanical Plant OJSC - the factory specializes in the production and sale of machine tools, mechanisms, pumps for water and bitumen, steam and water heaters, iron castings, valves, metal molds, fire tanks. It produces solid waste sorting lines, metal structures, various pumps, guillotine shears, and thread-cutting machines.
• Vitebsk grinding machine factory VIZAS OJSC - the company specializes in the production of grinding equipment and today (2016) is the only manufacturer of machines in the CIS for the manufacture and sharpening of any cutting tool. VIZAS plant produces the following equipment: universal grinding machines; universal tool-grinding machines with CNC; specialized machines for sharpening broaches, worm mills, gear cutting and milling heads, circular saws, drills, countersinks, taps, dies, percussion drilling tools; machines for grinding tools (drills) from solid hardened workpieces; machines for sharpening wood-cutting tools; woodworking machinery.
• OJSC Smorgon Optical Machine Tool Plant is a manufacturer of vacuum equipment and optical machine tool industry.
• JSC Gomel Special Design and Technical Bureau of Hydropneumatic Automation (JSC GSKTB GA) - Creates and supplies hydraulic drives and turn-key electronic-hydraulic control systems, as well as the development and supply of hydraulic equipment for assembling mobile and stationary hydroficated machines, including metal cutting and woodworking machines, foundry and forging equipment, agricultural, road-building and forestry machines, automated lines and special presses.
• Baranavichy Automatic Lines Plant OJSC is the main range of products manufactured by BZAL OJSC:

- machine tools aggregate and special, including retooling; - Special lathes, including CNC, for processing parts in a chuck; - center-milling machines; - automatic lines; - normalized nodes: drilling, boring, milling machine headstock, pin heads, power tables, rotary tables, spindle boxes, etc .; - equipment for the cable industry;

Main activities:

• supervising the technical areas of development of the machine tool industry;
• conducting marketing research in the fields of world machine tool building and organizing the introduction of world novelties in domestic projects;
• development and maintenance of programs, including state ones, on issues of the development of machine tools;
• formation and maintenance of the largest electronic database of a secondary industrial equipment fleet in the Republic of Belarus;
• organization and carrying out repair and modernization of equipment;
• creating catalogs of equipment and tools produced in Belarus;
• exhibition activities on organizing the largest expositions of the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Belarus;
• development and implementation of software systems for solving the problems of technological preparation of engineering production;
• development and implementation of information technologies based on multiprocessor computers for designing structures of technological processes of continuous production;
• creation of computer-aided design systems (CAD) for technological preparation of production;
• preparation and conduct of thematic seminars. ^[11] .

Currently (2016) Svidersky Gennady Bronislavovich oversees the Department of metallurgy and machine tool industry; Appointed to the post of First Deputy Minister of Industry of the Republic of Belarus on January 27, 2015. ^[12] .
