Biography
In the First World War he joined the army of Austria-Hungary, then fought in the ranks of the Czechoslovak Legion in Russia. He joined the Czechoslovak army after the war, subsequently he steadily advanced in the service and, after training in airplane control, served in the Czechoslovak Air Force.
During World War II, Janošek took part in the Czechoslovak resistance to Nazi occupation before flying back to France and the UK, where he organized Czechoslovak units as part of the Royal Air Force of Great Britain. He was awarded the rank of vice marshal of aviation.
After World War II, he served in the Czechoslovak Army, then was arrested and sentenced in November 1948 to 19 years in prison. In 1950, Yanushka was accused of trying to escape, and sentenced to life imprisonment. Conclusion Yanushka ended up lasting 12 years, during which he visited the worst prisons in the country, including Leopolds - this place, like the camps at the uranium mines in Jachymov, was considered the worst prison, many prisoners died as a result of difficult conditions.
In 1960, Janošek was released thanks to the amnesty of President Antonin Novotny on the 15th anniversary of the liberation of Czechoslovakia on May 9. During the Prague Spring in 1968, Janošek was found not guilty, and in 1989 (after death) he was returned to his former rank and awards. In 1991, after the "velvet" revolution , he was promoted to the post of army general - posthumously.
In Culture
Swedish power metal band Sabaton wrote a song about Karel Janošek called “Far From the Fame” and presented it at the Masters of Rock 2012 festival in the Czech Republic. This song also appeared on Heroes , which was released in May 2014.
