Biography
Diadenis Luna was born on September 11, 1975 in the city of Santiago de Cuba .
The first serious success at the adult international level was in 1995, when she got into the main squad of the Cuban national team and attended the World Championships in Chiba, from where she brought the golden dignity prize won in the light heavyweight category. In addition, this season she performed at the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata, where she also defeated all rivals and won.
Thanks to a series of successful performances, she was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta . As a result, she reached the stage of the semifinals and thereby won the bronze Olympic medal.
After the Olympics in the United States, Luna remained in the main squad of the judo team in Cuba and continued to take part in major international tournaments. So, in 1997, at the world championship in Paris, she became a silver medalist, losing to the Japanese Noriko Anno in the final. Two years later, she added to the track record a bronze medal at the World Championships in Birmingham, and also won the Pan American Games in Winnipeg.
Being among the leaders of the Cuban national judo team, she successfully qualified for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games - she defeated the first three rivals here, including taking the upper hand over the strong Romanian judoka Simone Richter , but lost to the Frenchwoman Celine Lebrun in the semifinals. In a comforting meeting for third place, she was defeated by the representative of Italy, Emanuela Pierantozzi . Soon after the end of these competitions, she decided to end the career of a professional athlete, giving way to the young Cuban judokas in the national team.
