Akkol [3] [4] [5] [6] ( Ak-Gol [1] [4] [7] [8] ; Cum. Ak-köӀ - “White Lake” [4] ) is a lake in Russia, the capital of Dagestan - the city of Makhachkala [1] .

Geographical position
Located in the southeastern part of the city in the microdistrict Reduktorny village, 1 km from the shore of the Caspian Sea .
Property Information
It has a lagoon origin and a round-square shape. The maximum depth is about 4 meters. Formed by sanding the sandy spit that separated it from the Caspian Sea [9] . In the middle of the twentieth century, as a result of lowering the level of the Caspian Sea, the lake dried up and was subsequently restored by filling it with waters from the October Revolution Canal [10] .
The western part of the lake with an area of 12 hectares by a semicircular dam is cut off from the main water area of about 1,028 km² (2013). It feeds with groundwater (80%), as well as precipitation (20%).
Plant and Animal World
In the middle of the XX century, the reservoir was used for fisheries [7] . Lake biomass is formed by 67% freshwater mollusks . 48 species of microalgae. It was used as a feeding reservoir for growing carp and carp [10] .
Problems
It experiences a strong anthropogenic impact in connection with the construction of multi-storey buildings, falling asleep shores and spontaneous dumps of building materials [8] .
Research
The Caspian Institute of Biological Resources of the Dagestan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences is engaged in a detailed study of hydrography and lake problems.
Landmark
On the northern shore of the lake is located the park of the same name "Ak-Gol" with a monument to the Russian teacher . The Museum of the History of Makhachkala [9] is located under the platform on which the pedestal with the monument is installed.
