Baron Hamilton Dalzellsky from the county of Lanarkshire is a hereditary title in the Peerage system of the United Kingdom . It was created on August 14, 1886 for the liberal politician John Hamilton (1829-1900). Previously, he sat in the House of Commons from Falkirk (1857–1859) and South Lanarkshire (1868–1874, 1880–1886), and also served as lord pending in the government of William Gladstone (1892–1894). His eldest son, Gavin George Hamilton, 2nd Baron Hamilton of Dalzell (1872-1952), was also a lord pending in the administrations of Henry Campbell-Bannerman and Herbert Henry Asquith (1905-1911), and also served as Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire (1905-1911) —1952) His nephew, John d'Enen Hamilton, 3rd Baron Hamilton of Dalzell (1911–1990), was Lord Lieutenant of Surrey (1973-1986). As of 2010, the title bearer was his grandson, Gavin Goulburn Hamilton, 5th Baron Hamilton of Dalzell (born 1968), who succeeded his father in 2006 .
The historic residence is Dalzell House in Motherwell in Lanarkshire , which was sold in 1952 . The third baron Hamilton of Dalzell lived in Beckington Castle in Somerset .
In 1980, James Hamilton, who later became the 4th Baron, inherited the Epley Hall estate (8,500 acres) in Shropshire and Beechworth estate in Surrey after the death of his cousin, Major General Edward Henry Goulburn (1903-1980). Baron James Hamilton and his family have lived in Beechworth since the early 1970s. Beechworth Manor is the main residence of the family.
