The species lives in tropical mountain forests in the central regions of Madagascar at an altitude of 1200 to 2350 m above sea level. His black and white striped body is covered with needles, which he raises when threatened. The needles disconnect and remain in the body of an inquisitive predator. Tenrek uses its long face to dig under the leaves and bark, in search of earthworms and insect larvae, its main food. Active especially at night.
