Greco-Roman wrestling competitions in the framework of the 1948 Olympic lightweight champion (up to 62 kilograms) were held in London from August 3 to 6, 1948 in the Empress Hall.
The tournament was held according to the system with the accrual of penalty points. No penalty points were awarded for a clean victory, a fighter received one penalty point for a victory in points, two penalty points for a defeat in points 2–1, and three penalty points for a defeat with a score of 3–0. The wrestler who scored five penalty points dropped out of the tournament. The wrestlers who reached the final held meetings with each other. If they have already met in preliminary meetings, such results were read out. The battle according to the tournament regulations lasted 20 minutes. If no carcass was recorded within the first ten minutes, then the judges could determine the wrestler with the advantage. If no one was given an advantage, then six minutes of fighting in the stalls were appointed, with each of the wrestlers being down for three minutes (the order was determined by lot). If one of the wrestlers was given an advantage, then he had the right to choose the following six minutes of struggle: either in the ground on top, or in the rack. If after six minutes a clear victory was not recorded, then the remaining four minutes, the wrestlers fought in the stance.

The moment of the final meeting. Ulle Anderberg presses Ferenc Thoth to the carcass.
In the featherweight division, 17 participants fought. The undisputed favorite was the 1947 European champion Ulle Anderberg , later a two-time world champion. The competition was supposed to be made up of tournament veteran Ferenc Tot , silver medalist of the European Championships 1934 and 1947, as well as a two-time European pre-war freestyle wrestling champion. But Anderberg unexpectedly purely lost in the third round to Turk Mehmet Octave . For the decisive meetings, three fighters: Octave, Underberg and Thoth had three penalty points. The final meeting took place between Anderberg and Tot and she did not bring the gold medal to Underberg at any outcome, since even a clear victory left him the same three penalty points, but he lost to Octave in a personal meeting. Meanwhile, Thoth, in the event of any victory, would have to fight for the "gold" with the Octave. Anderberg won purely, which brought him the "silver".
