Biography

She studied at the French Lyceum in Tehran . In 1983 she moved to Vienna . She graduated from the Higher School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg , lives in Paris .

Creativity

In 2000, she published an autobiographical comic strip about the Iranian revolution, Persepolis, which was a huge success. At present, three more volumes of the sequel are published, the tetralogy is translated into 16 languages, including Hebrew and Chinese.

Persepolis received the prize of the International Comic Book Festival in Angouleme ( 2001 ), the prize as a comic of the year at the Frankfurt Book Fair ( 2004 ).

I got it and the new Satrapi comic “Chicken with Prunes” (2004, 2005 prize, a film based on it - directors Marzhan Satrapi and Vincent Paronno - was released in 2011 [10] ).

In 2007, the full-length animated film Persepolis appeared [11] . Roles in it were voiced by Chiara Mastroianni , Catherine Deneuve , Daniel Darje , Gina Rowlands . The film received a special award from the Cannes Film Festival jury, a Cesar Award in two categories, was nominated for a BAFTA Award and an Oscar as the best animated full-length film. The film provoked persecution by religious fundamentalists in Lebanon (2008) and Syria (2012 [12] ).

In 2014, she directed a horror film with elements of the comedy Voices . In 2016, the movie Fakir is due out.

Rewards

In addition to the above-mentioned prizes, Satrapi is a holder of the Order of Arts and Literature ( 2005 ). She was a member of the jury of the Cannes IFF ( 2008 ). Honorary Doctor of the Louvain and Leuven Catholic Universities ( 2009 ).
