Avlakocephalodon ( Aulacocephalodon or Aulacephalodon ) - large late Perm dicinodont . Belongs to the group of near-endodonts.

The skull is very wide, low, with bone outgrowths in front of the eyes . The width of the skull is greater than the length. The upper canines are small, other teeth are missing, there was a wide horny beak . The body is massive, the legs are thick and rather short. Skull length up to 40 cm, total length up to 2 meters.
A herbivorous animal, approximately 2 species lived in South Africa at the very end of the Permian era ( Cistecephalus - Dicynodon zone ). Type species - A. baini , described by R. Owen in 1855 .
Footprints are known that show that when walking the front legs were spread out, the hind legs were half-straightened. Probably moved very slowly.
