The principle of non-interference is an international obligation not to intervene in matters relating exclusively to the internal competence of an independent country . This obligation is consistent with the concept of sovereignty and expresses the main practical consequences of sovereignty for other states.
The principle of non-interference in internal affairs is one of the basic principles of modern international law. This principle is enshrined in paragraph 2 of Article 2 of the UN Charter . The principle is specified in international documents:
