Biography

Born February 16, 1926 in Poshekhonye-Volodarsk, Yaroslavl region, in a teacher’s family.

After graduating from a seven-year school he worked at a factory

In 1943 he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army. He participated in the Great Patriotic War as a Red Army soldier of the 1372th Infantry Regiment of the 417th Infantry Division in an offensive battle on July 13, 1944 near Šiauliai, and was severely shell-shocked, as a result of which he lost his sight. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the second degree [2] .

In 1947, he arrived with his father, later honored teacher of Karelia, in Lahdenpohju .

In absentia he graduated from high school.

Since 1950, he began to print in the press with poems for children, with whom he spoke daily, as he lived in the house where the kindergarten was located, and his wife Lidia Alekseevna was a teacher.

In the publishing house "Karelia" 3 of his collections of poems for children were published - "I am no longer small", "Helper", "I will draw the sun", which brought the poet all-Union fame.

The poet was a freelance correspondent for the local newspaper “Call”, headed the Lahdenpohskiy district literary association and the literary association under the newspaper “Red Banner” in Sortavala .

Died in 1977 [3]

Memory

  • In the Lahdenpoh district, the annual regional festival of children's literature "Faithful Friend" named after Arkady Konstantinovich Markov is held.
  • On May 10, 1983, one of the streets of Lahdenpohja was named after Arkady Markov.
