Swamp soils

Swamp soils are soils with a large number of undecomposed and semi-decomposed plant debris ( peat ) that accumulate in them under the influence of prolonged excess moisture.

According to the degree of development of the processes of peat formation and gleying , which is characteristic of them, bog soils are divided into peat soils (peat layer more than 50 cm ), peat-clay (peat layer less than 50 cm, glue horizon below) and silty-bog, in which a continuous layer no peat. From an economic point of view, marsh soils are usually divided into acidic, neutral and alkaline, as well as solonchakous, solonetzic, carbonate and ferruginous.

After drainage and land reclamation measures, wetland soils can turn into highly productive agricultural land . They produce high yields of vegetables , potatoes , perennial herbs , hemp and other crops. Marsh soils are common in the northern part of Eurasia [1] .
