In March 2014, having already had ten victories in his track record, he got a chance to challenge the vacant Baltic welterweight title according to the World Boxing Council . Another challenger was the most experienced Alisher Rakhimov , but Shakhnazaryan knocked him out in the second round [1] .

The year 2015 was unsuccessful for Shakhnazaryan, in January he boxed for the first time in the USA and suffered the first defeat in his professional career, by unanimous decision of the judges from the Mexican Abner Lopez (73:78, 74:77, 74:77) [2] . In April, he met with the undefeated compatriot Eduard Troyanovsky , while at stake was the vacant world title according to the International Boxing Organization - this time Shakhnazaryan lost by knockout in the eighth round [3] .

[5] In October 2018, he began working with the famous Belarusian coach Sergei Pytalev who was preparing him for a significant duel with Fedor Papazov. On December 14, this confrontation took place in Krasnodar. Papazov tried to work in the first number, but Shakhnazaryan successfully disrupted Fedor’s attempts to deliver a hard blow. At the same time, Shakhnazaryan’s counterattacks were very effective and, on the whole, working on his feet and in defense put the enemy at a standstill. The fight lasted all 12 rounds at a high pace and according to the results, Shahnazaryan won, becoming the owner of the IBF and WBA regional belts.
