Biography
Timerbulat Karimov was born in 1974 in Ufa [8] [9] . Timerbulat’s maternal grandfather was the famous Bashkir poet and writer Mustai Karim [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] .
From 1991 to 1993, Karimov studied at the Faculty of Romano-Germanic Philology of Bashkir State University [13] [15] [16] .
In 1997, he graduated from Bridgeport University ( USA ) [13] [15] and received a bachelor's degree in industrial relations management, and in 2001, an MBA diploma in finance [13] [15] .
In 2000-2001, he worked as an oil sector analyst at the investment company John S. Herold (USA) [17] , then in the Aton group of companies an oil and gas industry analyst [18] [19] [20] [21] [22] [23 ] [24] [25] [26] [27] [28] [29] . In 2003, Karimov became vice president of the investment banking sector of the group, and in 2004 was appointed director of the capital markets department [17] [30] .
In 2006, Karimov became managing director of the corporate finance and consulting business line of FC Uralsib [30] . He then held senior positions at Nomura , Lehman Brothers and UniCredit [8] [8] [13] [15] [17] [31] [32] .
In the fall of 2011, Karimov became Senior Vice President and Advisor to the First Deputy President and Chairman of the Management Board of VTB Bank [2] [7] [7] [15] [33] . At VTB, Karimov was responsible for interaction with large corporate clients in investment banking and other areas [8] [15] [34] [35] . In 2013, he left the company [8] [13] [16] . In the summer of the same year, Karimov became the founder of the Mustai Karim Foundation [15] .
In 2013, Karimov, along with his wife Inga, attended the premiere of the film "Stalingrad" [36] .
Since 2014, Karimov has been the Advisor to the Director General of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) [37] .
According to 2014 data, Karimov owns a 33% stake in Ufa-based Arniks LLC, a pharmaceutical retail company [13] [15] [38] .
On June 25, 2018, Italian Ambassador to Russia Pasquale Terracciano awarded Karimov the Order of the Italian Star of the Commander degree for his contribution to strengthening relations between Italy and Russia [39] [40] .
By a decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated August 21, 2018, Karimov was awarded the Order of Friendship for “active work in preserving, enhancing and popularizing the cultural and historical heritage of Russia” [41] .
Community Activities
October 1, 2015 Timerbulat Karimov was unanimously elected chairman of the Council of the Plyos urban settlement [3] [42] . After the election, Karimov founded the non-profit organization Plyos Development Corporation, which will invest in the development of the settlement [4] [6] . The organization’s first project was the creation of a new master plan of the city [42] [43] [44] , designed to solve the urban development problems of Plyos [6] .
Karimov is a member of the board of trustees of the Russian Cycling Federation [45] , a board of trustees of the Plyos secondary school [45] , and is a philanthropist of the Fyodor Chaliapin Summer Festival in the city of Plyos [45] [46] , the founder of the Mustai Karim Foundation [8] . The Mustai Karim Foundation is known for supporting projects designed to develop the culture and traditions of the Bashkir language and literature [11] .
In addition, Karimov is the founder of the charity fund “Traditions and Culture” [45] and the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the fund “House of National Literatures” [47] .
With the patronage of Timerbulat and Inga Karimov, on October 27, 2018, a monument to Maxim Gorky was erected in Sorrento ( Italy ) [48] .

Timerbulat Karimov is married, has five children. Wife - daughter of the head of Rosneft Oil Company Igor Sechin [2] [4] [37] [49] .
Karimov is fluent in the Bashkir and Tatar languages [1] .
