DITTON Drive Chain Factory JSC ( Latvian AS "DITTON pievadķēžu rūpnīca" ) is a manufacturer of roller, sleeve, plate and other chains . It was founded in 1949 in Daugavpils , Latvia , originally called the Daugavpils Factory of Drive Chains. The plant produces chains of various steps, including those according to ISO / DIN , ANSI , and GOST standards.

On July 16, 1949, on the basis of the capacities transferred to the Daugavpils of the Izhevsk Motorcycle Plant , the Motovelozep factory was organized, located at ul. Dorozhnikov, 17 (currently - 1 Jelgavas St.), which produced motorcycle and bike chains, as well as chains for machinery.


In 1962, a new production building was built, in 1964 - equipment was modernized. In 1968, the plant was included in the list of 34 plants - satellites of the Volga Automobile Plant (the plant supplied chains of gas distribution mechanisms ).

In 1970, the construction of premises began at ul. Vishkyu, 17, where in 1971 the first stage of the plant was launched - 179,000 meters of automobile chains. Construction was completed by 1977.

In 1975, the factory organized its own machine tool industry. Practically all production units, with the exception of thermal presses, were designed and manufactured in the design technological bureau of the plant.

On August 5, 1976, the plant was renamed the Daugavpils Drive Chain Plant. All products subject to certification are certified by the USSR State Quality Mark. Products are supplied both to domestic and foreign markets. Importer countries are: Belgium, Italy, Germany, Holland, Colombia, Brazil, Finland, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Yemen.


The main products of the drive chain factory are concentrated in the workshops: stamping, thermal, assembly shops, and automobile chains. In 1978, the “Sparite” workshop for the production of three-wheeled children’s bicycles was created (in Latin: “Spārīte”).

In 1982, the plant was awarded the Prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR "For outstanding projects and construction on them."

In 1985, the Presidium of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Latvian SSR awarded the plant for 2nd place in the republican competition - “The Best Exporter of the Latvian SSR”.

From 1985 to 1990, a rotor-conveyor line was introduced.

1988 The Daugavpils factory of drive chains was awarded the prize of the Council of Ministers of Latvia for the high quality drive chains of children's bicycles “Sparite”.

The total volume of manufactured consumer goods in 1988 reached 80 million rubles in retail prices. The nomenclature of goods manufactured by the plant included more than 30 items. The main group consisted of bicycle equipment: chains, pedals, pumps, calls, mirrors, children's bicycles.

After the restoration of Latvia's independence

With the restoration of independence of the Republic of Latvia, the drive chain factory in Daugavpils became part of the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Latvia. In 1994, the plant joined the Latvian Industrial Association of Engineering and Metalworking.

In 1995, the plant was privatized, an open joint stock company was organized. In 2000, DITTON became the owner of a controlling stake, acquiring them from Baltic Transit Bank . In 2002, the plant was renamed to DITTON Drive Chain Factory JSC. From 2012 to 2015, the buildings were reconstructed and production equipment was updated. Since 2015, the plant has been a member of the European Power Transmission Distributors Association (EPTDA ).


In 2015, with the financial support of the European Regional Development Fund , an industrial park “DITTON” was created on an area of ​​30,371 m² [1] .
