About the movie
The most famous film by Jean Erman, staged according to the script and dialogues of Sebastien Japrizo .
An adventurous story about two colleagues - the military doctor of the Foreign Legion Dino Barran and the mercenary Franz Propp, after the end of the Algerian war and the demobilization of those involved in the dubious business of opening a safe in a large company’s vault during the Christmas holidays.
The film was very popular in France and some of its moments became cult [1] , including the replica “Yeah!” Periodically cast by the Bronson hero, a striptease in the parking lot (costing the director of reproaches for “sexism” [2] ), Olga’s leopard coat Georges Picot [K 1] and the intense music of François de Roubaix . According to the author of the note in Le Figaro , all the spectators, upon leaving the cinema, tried to repeat the trick by dropping five franc coins into a glass filled to the brim, and this fun was more successful than playing it from the movie “ Last Year in Marienbad ” [1 ] .
Delon starred in this film after success in Melville 's Samurai , and Bronson before filming Sergio Leone 's Once Upon a Time in the Wild West . The next time they composed an acting duet in the Terence Young film “The Red Sun ” in 1971.
Film critics usually note a good selection of actors, but also indicate plot oddities and a lack of psychological certainty. The columnist for the Télérama weekly, defining the film genre as “ suspense kitsch, ” remarks that the motivations for the actions of the characters sometimes leave the viewer completely at a loss [2] (which is generally characteristic of Japrizo’s scripts, which did not consider it necessary to study the details of psychology).
In Italy, the film was screened under the names “Two dirty scum” ( Due sporche carogne ) and “Robbery technique” ( Tecnica di una rapina ). The English version, known as Farewell, Friend, and Honor Among Thieves and mounted for showing in the USA, was released there only in 1973, since the tape had poor popularity in local media, and the distributors did not want to release a film with such a strange, boring and far-fetched plot .
