Content
Apparatus
Built on the basis of the space platform LS-1300 by Space Systems / Loral . Power supply is provided by two wings of solar batteries and rechargeable batteries. Satellite power - 16.7 kW . The propulsion system includes a main (apogee) engine and a system of hydrazine small thrust engines for orbital maneuvering. The expected service life is 15 years. The launch mass of the satellite is 6564 kg [2] [3] .
Transponders
10 C-band transponders with a capacity of 54 Hz (equivalent to 15 standard transponders with a capacity of 36 Hz), 24 Ku-band transponders and Ka-band equipment emitting up to 24 narrowly directed beams [2] [3] are installed on the satellite.
Coverage
Eutelsat 65 West A satellite will provide a wide range of telecommunication services (fixed line, direct digital television, broadband Internet access) to consumers in Latin , South and Central America [1] [3] .

| Launch of the Arian-5 launch vehicle with Eutelsat 65 West A satellite | |
One of the rare launches of the Arian-5 launch vehicle with one geostationary satellite (traditionally, the launch operator, the French company Arianespace , simultaneously launches two satellites with a total weight of about 10 tons). The satellite operator, Eutelsat , paid the full cost of the launch, wishing to commission its satellite before the start of the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil [4] .
The successful launch of the Arian-5 ECA launch vehicle with the Eutelsat 65 West A telecommunications satellite took place on March 9, 2016 at 05:20 UTC from the launch pad ELA-3 of the Kourou spaceport as part of the VA-229 mission [4] .
Unlike the standard for a launch vehicle of a geo-transitional orbit of 250 × 35,786 km, an inclination of 6 °, and a relatively low payload mass allowed the satellite Eutelsat 65 West A to take a more convenient trajectory with orbital indices of 230 x 35,826 km, an inclination of 0.5 °, which will reduce the time and fuel consumption for the satellite to reach a constant point of standing. It is planned that the path to the geostationary orbit , which the satellite will pass using its own propulsion system, will take 10 days [5] .
