Collect (lat. Oratio collecta letters. "Conciliar prayer") - in the Catholic and Lutheran services ( Latin rite ) a short prayer , usually read at the beginning of the Mass and conveying in a concise form the meaning of the current day or holiday (in this sense it can be called an analogue of troparion days in the worship of the Byzantine rite ). The collection is usually preceded by an exclamation of “Oremus” (in Russian: “Pray”), and ends with the praise and response of the people: “Amen.” The Russian translation of the missal of the collective is called "Opening Prayer", which, however, is not entirely correct, since the collective is also read at the end of the divine services of the watch liturgy .
For example, the final collection of the German Mass translated as follows:
We thank you, Almighty God, that strengthened us with your saving gift, and pray for your mercy: that our faith in you and sincere love among us all, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord, be affirmed. Amen [1]
