History
On July 13, 1920, Mexico recognized Finland's independence from Russia . After the signing of the friendship treaty between Finland and Mexico in 1936 in Washington, DC, both countries officially established diplomatic relations on October 2, 1936. A few years after World War II in 1949, both countries officially accredited the ambassadors of each other's countries. The first Mexican embassy accredited to Finland was in Stockholm , when the first Finnish embassy accredited to Mexico was in Washington, DC. In 1964, embassies were established in each other's capitals. [one]
In 1983, an agreement on intercultural exchanges between the two countries was signed [2] .

Trade
In 1997, Mexico signed a free trade agreement with the European Union (which includes Finland). After signing the agreement, the volume of bilateral trade increased sharply. In 2014, bilateral trade amounted to $ 756 million. [6] Between 1999 and 2012, Finnish companies invested more than $ 676 million in Mexico. Finland is Mexico's fifteenth largest trading partner in the EU. [7]
